Cost of bathing accessories for handicapped people is more than that of normal accessories. Most people can afford to buy such handicap shower accessories. Here is one better solution, which can fit into your requirements, and it will not cost you much. One can make handicap showers at home with less expense. For making such a shower one has to buy some accessories from the market like a pipe wrench, rails, crowbar, grab bars, shower bench, handled shower spray, custom built shower surround, etc. First, decide the area in which you want to use for taking shower. Generally, it is 35 inch wide and 35 inch long.

If you are already using a bath tub then its faucets can be used to build handicapped showers. Place the old bath drain in such place that it reaches till the shower insert. Use joint extension and dresser pipe coupling for this purpose. If necessary, cut the extension into two parts of required length. One may also need reducing adaptors if the drain is longer. Put rubber shower pan at one end of the drain. Make sure that the shower and drain are in proper alignment with shower pan. Make alignment of handicap shower bath tub faucets with holes in shower insert. Handicapped shower should be of good quality and it should be lightweight.

After doing all the alignments, grab bars and rails should be fixed at a convenient place. Drill the holes accordingly into the wall and fix grab bars. Install handled shower spray in place of shower head. Handicap showers should be at least 5 to 6 feet long so that one can move it easily. After that put the shower seat at convenient distance from grab bars and rails then fix it with floor. There are some handicapped shower benches, which are retractable. Usually these folding seats are to be attached to the wall adjacent to faucets. Like this, it is very easy to build handicapped showers at home.
